Pro Texana Sed Non Ecclesia

(A nod to the Baylor alumnae/i among our readers.)

Texans, as we learned at an early age, are passionate about their national soft drink.  And so we pass on this news:  it would seem that the original formula for Dr. Pepper has been discovered in a beaten-up old ledger, and will go up for auction on May 13.

The recipe for "D Peppers Pepsin Bitters" is said to include mandrake and sweet flag roots.  Much of it appears to be undecipherable, and yet the present-day patent holders assure us that this is not a formula for their product.

Whatever.  Dr. Pepper is just another man-made beverage.  When somebody unearths the golden tablets upon which the Divine Finger etched the original formula for Diet Coke, then we can have a conversation.
