The Gift That Keeps On Giving

A Seminex alumnus was just elected bishop of the ELCA's Central/Southern Illinois Synod. We wish only the best for Bishop-Elect S. John Roth, whom we have never met and about whom we know nothing, and will say nothing else on the matter.

In other news, we will make an appointment with our dentist in the morning. Some teeth seem to be broken.

I don't know. Some of my favorite pastors and professors have been Seminex alumni. My experience is that many (but clearly not all) have really learned and understood something about God's grace.

Another Seminex bishop, Father A. They're taking over! :)

Some of my closest friends, and I mean that literally, have been and remain AELC people. That number includes a number of exceptionally fine pastors.

And that is all I will say on the subject for now, but the self-restraint is killing me.

One more thing, which have said before, and mean in all earnestness: the happiest pastoral bond we have ever formed was with a formerly AELC parish. See? Further proof that we love the AELC and all its many contributions to American Lutheranism. Let there be no doubt.

Pastor Roth is a wonderful pastor and will be a fine Bishop. I have known him for years and am honored to serve in his synod. Blessings...
