Our New Look --Yea or Nay? [UPDATE]

A few days ago, on a whim we changed the Egg's display to use Blogger's "Dynamic View."  It's a cool feature that lets readers change the way they see the blog.  We asked for feedback

Two readers wrote back, purty durn unhappy.  Apparently the colors were bad and the interface itself was a little buggy.  So we're trying something new, and -- once again -- asking for feedback.  So let us know what you think about this slightly Gothic look.  We're not married to it, by any means (and no, before you ask, we couldn't seem to keep the background and change the goofy pink trim).

But fair warning:  during the two days we were using Dynamic View, our hit count doubled, far exceeding any previous record.  This may simply have been a result of our resolution to feature more SEXX and more naked ladies, or it may have something to do with the interface.  We'll see how it goes.

Anyway, let us know what you think.

Oh, there is the comment section. I clicked all over the place with no luck for awhile to try and find this comment place. The format now has things popping up, shrinking, etc. which doesn't add anything, but is only annoying. Your main "page" is just text, with the various dates of various posts. Pretty boring. I like some visual interest. In fact, I remember various bloggers by both what they say and how their page looks visually. That said, I do often read posts on Google Reader, and then go to the actual blog if 1) there are several posts that I haven't yet read and/or 2) I want to comment. I had given up on commenting on your post, left that page, went to email, and when i came back, the comment thing appeared. That is too capricious. Sorry, in my opinion, the do-dads don't add to your message or presence.

By the way, I can rarely read the digits I'm supposed to type to get a blog comment to "take." Lately, I've been just randomly typing numbers and they have all gone through.

Sounds awful. That's two votes nay; unless the "yeas" start coming fast and furious, I'll switch back tomorrow. It won't look quite the same, but the function ought to be what we're all used to.

My guess about the hit count spike: no more unique visitors; more clicking required to read anything. (Can you tell how many unique visitors you get?)

Count me as a no-vote on the new look (as of when you first posted this)—I like the old one (or what you have now) much better. Much more personable; not so slick and professional-looking. I would only value the Dynamic View functionality, I think, if you were putting out a really high volume of posts and I were only interested in some of them.

When you say: "switch back", I sure hope
it means to the one before you started
tinkering. And yes - the hits were certainly
for the Lefebvre centerfold and not for the
ugly "dynamic view"!

Oh. And this "slightly gothic" is a ton better.

PS -- I have the same problem reading those pesky digits on Pastor Joelle's blog, and I never thought of just typing random ones. I will now, though ....

It just this moment (literally, just this moment) occurred to me that I don't need them, either. Since I'm going to approve or not approve comments myself, it doesn't really matter whether they are left by a spambot. Let me see what happens if I change that requirement.

The red gothic-like theme is tons better than the rather uninteresting and plain, even ugly, dynamic thingie. I thought it made it more difficult to read and navigate your blog. I still like the them you've had for quite a while better than the red, but that could just be that this is a bit different and still unfamiliar.

Did not like the Dynamic View. As for the number of hits, I clicked on Miss March only once, and that was to read the article for theological insights. Honest!

But thanks for the idea of taking out the having to put little number thingys in - I didn't think you could do that but I will forthwyth

I left a comment earlier. Either it wasn't approved or it never went through because I couldn't read those stupid letters and numbers. I'm not crazy about the new look. There's my two cents. And, like others, I do think the uptick in viewers has a direct correlation to the painting of MM. Loved it! Red heads rock.

this red & mauve one has something of the bordello about it. have not liked that netflix took away my queue & gave me a list. one plus one seem to add up to the fact that change is always hard. in total agreement with pastor joelle.

Bordello, yes indeed.
Please. Please find a way back to the old one!
